Welcome to BarterEase. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Personal Information

• Name and contact information (email, phone number)
• Profile picture/avatar
• Location information you provide, including country, city, and address; the app can use location while in use to help fill an address
• Date of birth and, if you choose to provide it, national identity information
• Authentication handled through Supabase Auth and your selected email, Google, or Apple sign-in method; BarterEase does not receive your social account password
• Community memberships, preferences, and safety/report information

2.2 Item Information

• Item listings (title, description, images, category)
• Exchange preferences
• Item condition and estimated value
• Wants, skills, saved products, exchange and return history, ratings, disputes, and transaction details
• Chat, support messages, reports, and community participation
• Payment method and account details you choose to provide or share for an exchange

2.3 Device and Usage Information

• Device/app version, a random app-installation identifier, and push tokens when you allow notifications
• IP address and technical request information processed by our servers and hosting providers
• Product interaction events used to operate and improve recommendations and the service
• Crash diagnostics. JavaScript crash reports do not attach account names, emails, screenshots, or session recordings.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

• Provide and maintain our bartering services
• Create and manage your account
• Facilitate exchanges between users
• Match you with relevant items and communities
• Send notifications about exchanges and updates
• Improve app functionality and user experience
• Prevent fraud and ensure platform security
• Comply with legal obligations

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

• Other users: information you choose to make visible, such as public profile details, listings, exchange activity, and messages to participants. Private community and payment details are limited by access controls and your sharing choices.
• Service providers: Supabase (authentication, database, and media storage), Apple and Google (when you choose their sign-in), Expo and Apple/Google push services (when notifications are enabled), Resend (email), Sentry (crash diagnostics), and Google Analytics if forwarding is enabled.
• Legal authorities: When required by law or to protect rights and safety
• Business transfers: In case of merger, acquisition, or asset sale

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

• HTTPS for connections between the app, website, and service endpoints
• Supabase Auth for account authentication; selected sign-in providers handle their own credentials
• Access controls and encryption for certain sensitive stored fields, such as national identity and payment details
• Operational monitoring and access controls

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Request access to or correction of account information through the app or privacy@barterease.co
• Request a copy of available account data in the app; some large exports may need help from support
• Request account deletion in the app or by contacting support. Account access is blocked after acceptance while deletion is processed.
• Choose whether to allow optional device permissions such as notifications and location

7. Data Retention

We retain account information while needed to provide the service, protect users, and meet legal obligations. After a deletion request is accepted, access is blocked and removal from active systems begins. We aim to complete ordinary requests within 24 hours; provider or storage failures can require additional processing and are retried. Encrypted backups may retain data until their normal expiry. Limited non-identifying deletion records are retained for the period needed to verify backup restores and complete deletion obligations.

8. Children's Privacy

BarterEase is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

9. International Data Transfers

Our service providers may process information in countries where they operate. Contact privacy@barterease.co if you need information about the providers used for your account.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices change. We will post the current version here and in the app with its update date. Please review material changes before continuing to use the service.
